Dispel Magic

Picking out a spell or a creature affected by magic you wish to dispel, you make a sudden cutting motion with your hand and speak a single word of disruptive power. The chosen spell rapidly reverses itself if you chose a single spell. If you chose a creature, any magic clinging to them fades away.

Action - 120 ft. - 3rd Level (Abjuration) - VS

Utility Spell

When you cast this spell, you attempt to end one or more magical effects, as described below.

  • You instantly dispel spells of 2nd level or lower.*

  • If the target spell is 3rd level or higher, roll a spellcasting ability check (1d20 + your spellcasting ability modifier). The DC for this check is 10 + the spell's level. Rolling a 20 always succeeds.

  • When attempting to dispel a magical effect created by a creature that is not a spell, the DC is 10 + twice the creature's proficiency bonus. If the effect was not created by a creature, the DC is usually 15. The GM can decide in unusual cases whether the DC should be higher or lower than 15.

  • Targeting One Spell, Summoned Creature, or Effect: If successful, you end the spell or magical effect for all affected creatures. If a creature used the same spell or magical effect more than once, you only end one instance of the effect.

  • Targeting One Creature or Object: You attempt to dispel every spell or magical effect on the target. Roll once for all spells or magical effects. You do not dispel area of effect spells, like Entangle or Reverse Gravity.

  • You cannot dispel permanent magical effects or permanent spells (like Arcane Lock or the effects of an instantaneous spell like Druidcraft). You also cannot dispel curses.

*Upcasting: This spell can automatically end the effects of a spell on the target if the spell's level is at least one level lower than the Dispel Magic spell. For example, a 5th level Dispel Magic automatically ends all spells of 4th level or lower.
